Procol Harum est un groupe britannique aux accents baroques formé en 1967.
La chanson a obtenu un immense succès à l’international.
Le titre se retrouve sur leur premier album « Procol Harum » (qui va être réédité sous le titre A Whiter Shade of Pale)

La chanson a été plusieurs fois reprise par d’autres artistes par la suite.
On a eu droit à une version disco par Munich Machine en 1978.
En 1988, on va avoir droit à une version française de la chanson. Elle aura pour titre Soleil de minuit et elle sera interprétée par Bruna Giraldi.
En 1995, Annie Lennox va reprendre la chanson et elle va obtenir un immense succès.
Dans les année 2000, la soprano Sarah Brightman propose à son tour sa propre version de cette chanson.
